Ever since the team at King International travelled to Japan, we’ve developed a genuine appreciation—some might even say addiction—for authentic Japanese tofu salad. While tofu and salad may not sound like the most exciting pairing at first glance, something truly magical happens when sweet–tart sesame dressing meets savoury roasted seaweed and smooth, delicate tofu. One bite is enough to make anyone wonder why we didn’t discover it sooner!

Light, refreshing, and perfect for the warmer months, the Japanese Tofu Salad is an ideal alternative to the usual garden salad. King International is confident that once you try it, you’ll be craving it again and again.

Japanese Tofu Salad with Sesame Dressing

Ingredients

  • Gourmet salad mix

  • Cherry tomatoes

  • Kingland Silken Tofu

  • Sesame seeds

  • Seaweed laver

  • Bonito flakes (omit for a vegetarian version)

Dressing

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 ½ tsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp mirin

  • 1 tsp sake

  • 2 tsp minced ginger

  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar (or white wine vinegar)

  • 2 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

(Alternatively, a ready-made sesame dressing from an Asian supermarket works perfectly.)

Method

Cut the tofu into 2cm cubes and place over salad greens and cherry tomatoes.

Garnish with seaweed, sesame seeds, and bonito flakes, then drizzle generously with the sesame dressing. Enjoy!
